Someone using fake Social Security number on loan apps -- how to report?
Someone I know (who I admit I despise because of his unethical
practices) clearly committed an illegal act. and I'd like to report it
to the proper authorities who will actually *promptly investigate*.
This person operates a business in the U.S.. but is not (yet) a U.S.
citizen (he may not even have a green card.) Because he doesn't yet
have a Social Security number (only a tax ID). and because his wife
(who does have a SS#) has terrible credit. he used a fake Social
Security Number (not yet issued from what I understand) to secure
loans for refinancing his home (to the tune of $150.
I inquired with a friend of a friend who is a FBI agent in California.
and she said that reporting it to the FBI probably won't get very far
since they consider this to be of very low priority (fighting
terrorism and pornography seems to be the FBI's major focus at this
time.)
where else in the government should I report this that will get
quickly investigated. and if deemed likely illegal (which I know it
is). *will* lead to charges and possible prosecution?

If a social security number is valid in the systems. but yet "fake"
could constitute a major breach on the social security
administration-us treasury computer systems. It is almost impossible
to "fake" a SSN and get away with it by getting loans from financial
organizations unless the crime is clearly identification theft.
